Penels come in 3 stock widths 2', 3' and 4'. In metric this equates to 600mm., 900mm., and 1200mm. They can be used in combination with each other to create any length side in multiples of 1'.
Wire comes in various thicknesses. 19g. is the thinnest with 10g. the thickest we supply. If you need the thickest wire you may consider having Aluminium framing rather than timber.
The type of wire you need depends on the intended occupants. For finches, canaries budgies and other small birds up to cockatiel size, 19g. wire is suitable. for cockatiel size up to and including African Greys and Amazons 16g. wire is usual. For the larger birds, Macaws and larger Cockatoos, and birds with strong beaks, e.g. Alexandrines, then 12g. or 10g. wire is advised. Double wiring is available where needed.
For cats and dogs 16g. or 15g. is usually enough. Sometimes 12g. will be needed. Thin(19g.) wire is unsuitable for cats as it can cause claw-pulling.
The Panels are 2" thick. This width must be taken into consideration during design so that the correct roof lengths can be calculated. A freestanding rectangle is 4" longer than the total length of panels whilst a leanto flight will often be only 2" longer.
We are happy to help with roof sizes once you have a plan of your aviary. If you need an apex or pointed roof please contact us for deign help and price.
Any panel can be fitted with a door. The options are a door 2' or 3' wide and 4' or 6' high. The low door is often chosen where there is no safety porch.
